Summer Term 1
This term our Quest will be 'The Greatest Show'.
Our focus will be on circuses and performance, and it will be an art, drama and music based topic.
We are lucky to be having a visit from Wookey Hole Circus Group and the topic will culminate with our very own performance to the children of Auklet and Barn Owl.
Please do keep checking the website for up to date photos and information on our learning.
This term the children will complete their SATs tests. These are tests in reading, arithmetic and maths reasoning. These are statutory tests that have to be completed during May for all Year 2 children. We do not want children (or adults!) to worry about these, we will be doing lots of practise and revision in the first few weeks so the children will be familiar with the kinds of questions asked and the format of the papers. Whilst we understand that these children are only 6 and 7 years old, and have had 2 disrupted years, we do want the children to do their very best and fulfil their potential.
What can be done at home?
- Support and reassure your child that there is nothing to worry about.
- Support your child with any homework tasks.
- Try to maintain the best possible attendance between the start of term and the end of May.
- Practise reading, asking comprehension questions, and practise basic arithmetic.
- Try to make sure that the children have a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast each morning.
Please, please do contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. We are here to help in any way we can.
This term, PE will be on continue on a Monday. For this, please come into school wearing weather suitable PE clothes . Navy tracksuit bottoms or shorts, navy school t-shirt, school jumper and trainers. If your child cannot do their own laces we request that they have velcro trainers.
Excitingly, we will be hoping to swim on a Thursday. The children will need to bring in their swimming kits every Thursday. They will need a swimming costume, a large towel, slip on shoes for walking to and from the pool (flip-flops/crocs) and optional items such as goggles and swimming hats all in a named bag. Unfortunately due to lack of spares, if they don't bring their kit they will not be able to swim.
Reading - please read with your child at least three times a week and record it in their reading diary. If you read and share another book from home - you can also record that too.
If your child is doing Accelerated Reader they can change their book (and do the quiz) during EMA - this can be done any day but we would expect that they read at least two books a week.
If your child is not doing Accelerated Reader, please could they bring in their reading book and diary everyday but book change days are Tuesdays and Fridays.
Spelling Homework - this should be completed by Friday of each week. Please make sure the children write a full sentence including the spelling words, underlined with a ruler, in their best handwriting. We would hope by this stage in the year that most children will be using cursive (joined up) handwriting.
The spellings will be marked and ready to go home on Monday. The spelling test is completed at the back of the homework book so you can check their score.
Maths SATs revision Homework - this will be set each week and will come home with your child on Monday and should be completed by the following Monday. The activities set will be based on questions that may come up in the SATs tests in May.
They can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars which the children should all have a log- in for.
Quest homework is set to be completed during the term. The children only need to choose ONE of the options.
