Science Week

In Science Week the children took part in lots of activities to practise their investigation skills and generally to have lots of fun with Science. They made aluminium boats and predicted how many marbles the boats could carry before they sank. They then tested them out and thought about why some boats were more successful than others.

In this experiment the children were testing to see whether the type of topping would affect the way the toast landed when dropped. We introduced what a fair test is by dropping from the same height and dropping three bits of toast for each topping. And of course there was fun to be had with consuming the toast afterwards!

To get the children thinking about capillary action the children made flowers from sugar paper and folded the petals in. They then placed them in water and the petals sprung open as the water travelled through the paper.
