Autumn Term 1

Our topic this term is 'Superhero or Real Hero?'.

This is a fun and engaging topic for the children to begin their year with! This topic will focus on Science, PSHE and DT.

The children will explore what materials would be best for a firefighters jacket, design and make a smoothie for a superhero and we are hoping to have some visits from real life heroes!

Occasionally the plans will adapt and change as we follow the children's interests. 

P.E. - This will be on Monday and Friday. Monday will be a shorter session with Mr Tostevin but it will continue to be outside, so warmer clothes will be needed as the term progresses. Friday will be dance in the hall. Please could the correct kit be worn and long hair needs to be tied up.

Reading books - We aim to change reading books twice a week. If your child is doing Accelerated Reader, they should bring their book back when they've finished and complete a short comprehension quiz on it.

Spelling - Both Year 1 and Year 2 children have spelling lists that it would be of benefit for them to learn each week. They could practise writing these out at home in a variety of ways and the Year 2 children could also see if they can add that word into a sentence and write it. We will also be practicing our weekly spellings in class.

Forest School - Our forest school day is a Thursday, so please ensure children have wellies on this day. As the weather gets cooler we recommend bringing coats, waterproofs and hats/gloves as we will be continuing to go to Forest School whatever the weather! 

Swimming - Our swimming day is currently a Wednesday. We will continue to swim on Wednesdays whilst the weather allows. Children will need a one-piece swim suit, towel, goggles and slip on style shoes to walk to and from the pool. No armbands will be required.
