In Maths this week, we have been learning how to add two 2-digit numbers together. We have been doing this using Dienes and learning how to exchange 10 ones for one ten to help us cross 10 when adding. The children worked in mixed Year 1/2 pairings to allow the Year 2 children to work on their reasoning skills as they had to explain what they were doing and why. Very tricky maths that the children did really well with!

We have been Scientists this week! We conducted an experiment to see which item would fly the furthest. We had a pom pom, a paper aeroplane and a scrunched up piece of paper with a marble inside. The children had to make predictions and make sure it was a fair test. We went outside to test them and measured the distance in metres. We found out that the scrunched up piece of paper flew the furthest and the paper aeroplane flew the shortest distance, although this may be down to Miss Larcombe's paper aeroplane making skills! Afterwards we got to test our won planes that we made for homework - what a fun afternoon!.

We have been taking part in a range of activities as part of Children's Mental Health Week. We had a 'time to talk' session, in which we had a short amount of time to speak to one person and when the cymbal sounded, we had to move onto the next person. The children were provided with some 'would you rather?' style questions to help them get going! On Thursday afternoon we invited parents to join us on the Whole School Wellbeing Walk.

What a fantastic day we had at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. We saw and sketched a plane similar to the one the Wright Brothers flew. We saw lots of different types of planes and helicopters, went onto a flight deck replica, climbed aboard Concorde and ended the day with a play in the park. All the children engaged in all the exhibits they came across and asked some really great questions. Well done to Team Cuckoo!

Today we made windsocks for our Forest School activity. The weather was a bit damp so we made the windsocks inside before having a great time testing them on the playground.

We took part in the 'Big Bird Watch' organised by the RSPB. We saw lots of jackdaws, magpies and blackbirds. We even saw a seagull and some pheasants.

We had such fun getting out the big apparatus today! We were practising how to climb, jump and land safely.

We had fun with the glockenspiels in music today. We were learning a song about days of the week, singing in English and Spanish. We had to play the notes F, G and A on the glockenspiels to accompany our singing.

In Maths, we have been looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We had to sort the shapes out into groups using their simple properties (colour, type, size) and their formal properties (faces, sides/edges and vertices) Can you guess how we have sorted our shapes?/

This week we shared our forest school session with Eagle Class. We had a great time making bubbles!

This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Today we had to make some familiar 2D shapes on the Geo boards using elastic bands.
