Photographs of our learning.

In Art we found out about warm and cool colours. We sorted famous art works by their colours and then used watercolour pencils to create our own warm and cool shades.

We carried out a second science experiment where we found out about cabbage being a universal indicator. We thought about what might happen when we added lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda to the purple cabbage water. We were amazed by the results!

In PE we continued learning about ball handling. When rain stopped play we had an impromtu game of sleeping lions while we waited for the shower to pass!

In Maths we have moved on to look at statistics and data handling. We have found out about and created tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms.

In Forest School we went on a natural colour scavenger hunt. We searched for natural objects which were the colours on our sheets. We found some really beautiful and unexpected things like red stems on a tree and a beautiful yellow Iris near the pond.

In Science this week we experimented with skittles and warm water. We read the instructions for the experiment ourselves and carried out the instructions. We watched as the warm water dissolved the sugar coating and created a beautiful rainbow on the plate!

We have been learning about poetry in English. Today we found out about and performed some poems in small groups.

On Thursday we were thrilled to welcome award winning artist Christabel Blackburn. We were lucky that Bella was able to spend the day with us sharing her knowledge about mark making and colour. We investigated different mark making skills before working on colour mixing and complementary colours before completing a final mixed media piece using collage and pastels. Thank you Bella - we had a fabulous day!

In science this week we conducted a colour mixing experiment. First we made predictions about what we thought would happen to the coloured water and the kitchen roll then we watched as the water moved and created new colours!

We have been working hard on our ball skills in PE this week. We have been practising using our foot to stop the ball and passing to each other.

We have undertaken lots of practical measuring activities this week. We have measured with blocks, rulers and metre sticks as well as comparing the length of objects.

In art this week we found out about tints and shades. We added white to make tints and black to make shades. It was quite difficult not to use too much black!

We started the week with a puzzle! We found pieces from Red Crayon's letter and had to stick it back together.

In Forest School this week we looked for signs of Spring. We were amazed at the change in the trees and plants we have been observing since the Autumn term.

In Art this week we investigated Primary colours and Secondary colours.

We completed a drama activity where we pretended to be the crayons from the story! Some of the children were photographers for the day.

We started the term with a mysterious letter! The colouring pencils have gone on strike! They told us they were fed up of being badly treated by the children and had quit! We read the book "The Day the Crayons Quit" and decided to apologise to the pencils. We made some placards and went out on to the playground to have a little protest for pencil rights! I hope the pencils heard us and come back soon...
