Our KS1 art day! Led by the wonderful (and very patient!) Christabel Blackburn. The children learnt lots of different skills such as colour mixing, mark making, complimentary colours and collage. In the afternoon the children were given free rein to create a final piece using these skills, in the style of Kandinsky and Matisse. What a great day!

In science today we learned how red cabbage can be used as a PH indicator. We boiled the cabbage in water and then made predictions about what would happen when we add it to lemon juice (acid) and bicarbonate of soda (alkali). Here, you can see the results!

During science we completed a 'walking rainbow' experiment. The children loved seeing how the coloured water moved up the kitchen towel to meet and combine in the middle!

In maths we have been learning about length and height. After measuring in centimetres, today we took metre sticks outside and measured lots of objects to the nearest metre!

Today we learned about tints and shades. The children explored adding black to change a colour's shade, and white to change a colour's tint.

For our first maths lesson on length and height, we used cubes as a form of measurement. First the children estimated how many cubes long an item would be, and then measured it and recorded their findings.

The class were introduced to our book for this term: The Day the Crayons Quit. The children made signs using the information in the crayon's letters, then held a protest on the playground!
