We enjoyed our Easter bonnet parade!

Caroline, who is a garden designer, came to talk to us about her interesting job! She told us all about how gardens are designed using planting plans and how she creates gardens that welcome nature.

In Design and Technology we looked at Easter Decorations. We designed our eggs then made them from felt. We had to sew the eggs together and tuff them before choosing embelishemnts.

We brought our homework for our showcase. We all looked at each others homework and tasted lots of lovely cakes and cookies which were made with vegetables! We then went to look at the other KS1 classes work.

As we come to the end of our quest "Seeds, Soil and Sunshine" we went on a lovely walk to Bruton Allotments. As we walked we looked for signs of Spring. We saw tulips, daffodils and blossom on the trees. When we arrived Mr Goodland met us and talked to us about what he grows on his allotment. He then showed us the fruit trees and the beautiful new Barn Owl nesting box in the trees. Next we had a look at the water station where the frog lives! Finally we planted some potatoes! Thank you Mr Goodland for a fantastic afternoon!

We had a lovely assembly form the Ladies at "Open the Book". We continued our learning about Joseph and how he could tell people the meaning of their dreams.

We shared our Forest School session with Cuckoo this week. We talked about our seed experiment in class and how we now know what seeds need to grow strong and healthy. Everyone planted a sunflower seed to take home. We can't wait to see how tall they grow by the end of the summer term!

On Friday we made the most of the beautiful sunshine and held our Red Nose Day assembly outside on the playground.

Our plant experiment continues....

Rev Bev, the Chaplain at Kings School, came to visit us this week. He spoke to us about loving our enemies and answered our questions about Easter.

In art we have continued our learning about the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We looked at her pumpkin art and sketched our own pumpkins remembering to decorate with her famous polka dots. We then created mixed media pictures with our pumpkins.

After we had completed our fabulous innovated stories of "The Papaya that Spoke" we tried Peer Marking. We edited our work ourselves and then shared our work with a friend. The children were so sensible and were great at offering constructive suggestions to each other about they could improve their work.

On a beautiful Spring afternoon we joined the whole school on a wellbeing walk. It was great to be out in the fresh air again!

In Science we looked at different parts of plants. Then we found out about what is inside a seed! We took a broad bean apart and identified the seed coat, food store and the baby plant.

Our plant experiment continues with some more unexpected results! Who will win the race?

In English we took part in some drama this week! We reenacted the story of "The Papaya that Spoke".

We discussed the importance of feeding the birds in the Spring. We made bird feeders using apple slices and hung them on the tree outside the classroom.

In maths we have been learning about multiplication using arrays. We made some great practical arrays using playdough.

Science Week started with a bang as we we were visited by Dorset Science for a fun Chemistry show!

In Forest School we talked about common plants that we can find in our local area. We also found out about deciduous and evergreen trees and worked together to identify the trees using twig and leaf identification sheets.

World Book Day was so much fun! We shared our favourite books with children from Falcon class and of course dressed up!

In computing we have been learning about collecting and presenting data. We investigated different ways that data could be presented before going on a flower search of the school grounds. We collected our data using tally charts before using J2Data to present what we discovered in a pictogram.

In PE we have continued our work on aiming by playing a game where we worked in teams to hit and collect as many cones as possible!

In Maths we have been practising counting in 2's, 5's and 10's in different ways.

Our growing experiment has returned some unexpected results! So far Frank, who has not been watered and Carl, in the cupboard, have begum to grow!

As part of our Book Week activities we had a fantastic visit from West End in Schools. We took part in a dance and drama workshop based on "The Wind in the Willows."

We planted seeds in different conditions. The children named each seed and chose where we would place them. Carl is in the cupboard with no light, Gerald has no soil, Pat is outside in the cold, Frank has no water and Bob will have lots of care! We will revisit our seeds each week to see how they develop.

In Maths we have been looking at comparing equations.

Our English inspiration this term is Pie Corbett's "The papaya that spoke". We found clues around the room which told us a bit about the story then we investigated and tasted some papaya!

We looked at our non fiction books to investigate our new quest.

We have a new Quest - Seeds, soil and sunshine. We discussed what we already know about the topic and worked in pairs to think of questions we are curious about.

We started our term with a a fun game of dodge the ball! We practised aiming and rolling as well as jumping and dodging!
