Fun on the new play equipment!

Wow! What wonderful, creative Superhero capes we have been treated to this term. The children have really enjoyed sharing these with their friends.

This week we have been learning about Diwali and created beautiful rangoli patterns using coloured rice. It was very fiddly so we needed to work as a team and keep a steady hand. Traditionally rangoli patterns are created on the doorstep of Hindu homes during Diwali to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune.

We made our own 'Superhero Smoothies'. The children had to chop the fruit and add it to the mixture. After blending, they got to taste their smoothies! We then evaluated our finished product.

A fun filled trip to Hauser and Wirth for the Year One children to take part in their Big Draw Festival.

Number bonds to 10 - The children had to build towers of 10 using two different coloured cubes. They then had to record the calculation on a whiteboard. Year 2 children had to try and write all their bonds systematically.

We discussed the fact that Superheroes need to put healthy foods and drinks into their bodies to help them stay strong. We then tried three different smoothies containing different fruits and vegetables. We had to evaluate what they looked like and what they tasted like. Some were definitely more delicious than others!

We had a letter from Superman in Cuckoo Class and he asked us to help him create an aerial view map of our school. We tried to imagine ourselves as a superhero flying over the school, thinking about where the buildings and features went.

The children had to work in pairs with number cards to 20. They had to shuffle the cards and place them face down. Each person took 2 cards from the pile, turned them over and then working together they must sequence them into the correct order. We encouraged the children to use the language ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’. The children were then challenged to see if they could choose 3 or 4 cards to sequence into the correct order.

We have been comparing numbers in maths. We have been using the terms 'greater than', 'fewer than' and 'equal to'. We have been using the inequality symbols (< > and =) to compare two numbers.

Outdoor play

In RE, we have been looking at Hinduism. The children had to play a game of pairs to try and match up the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. We then discussed the interesting features of each.

Forest School this week.

In Maths we have been learning about number lines. Today we took our learning outside to try and draw number lines with chalk on the playground. They then had to find the correct number of natural objects to put next to the numeral.

As part of our Fitness unit in P.E., the children had to complete obstacle courses. They had to run, skip, jump, squat and star jump around the obstacles.

The children arrived to find their classroom was in chaos! There were some mysterious clues as to who was to blame... The children analysed the clues and made assumptions about what had happened. They then had to design traps to try and catch the prime suspect!

We have been looking at the artist Paul Klee. We created our own portraits in the style of Klee using oil pastels and watercolours.

Being Responsible is one of our school learning behaviours. The children played some team games in order to see how we could be responsible for a beanbag or ball. We learned that it is better to work together to look after something.

The children had to take part in a Maths investigation. The aim of this challenge was to completely fill the grid with counters. They needed 25 counters and 1-6 dice. The children had to throw the dice and place that number of counters anywhere on the grid. Then they had to repeat this over and over again. Each time they threw the dice, they had to make a record. They then had to continue until they had completely filled the grid. Some of the children had to play a slightly modified version in which they could only place the number of counters in the same row.
