Hide and seek at Forest School!

Today we brought in our Quest homework and had a KS1 homework showcase! We visited all the three classes and viewed each other’s homework projects. We shared comments and gave thumbs of appreciation for a project we liked in each class!

A wonderful day was had at We The Curious! We explored the scientific exhibits, we built rockets and tested to see how they would fly, we looked at the best materials for a space suit and we watched a show in the planetarium in which we became space explorers!

Our focus artist this term has been DY Begay. We have studied her work and discussed the earthy colours she used to complete her weaving. We then had a go at creating our our sun weavings. We had to weave the wool around the cardboard and then weave some sun rays through the wool. Look at some of our wonderful creations!

Today we thought about how some activities make our hearts beat faster and some don’t. We made a list of activities that we would like to try in our PE lesson. Before we carried out our experiment we made predictions about what would, and would not, make our hearts beat faster. We tried out the activities in the Hall. We were sure to do each activity for 1 minute to ensure a fair test. We observed the changes in our body to help us know that our heart was beating faster.

The children had to work together and choose a calculation card. They had to build it using Base 10 or Place Value Counters on the chart. They then had to write the calculation on a whiteboard.

The children had to play a game with a partner. They had a hundred square and some coloured counters. Player 1 had to put their coloured counter on any number on the hundred square. Player 2 then had to put their coloured counter on the number that was 10 more. Together they then had to write the calculation that represents what they just did. The children were encouraged to talk about any patterns they noticed.

We had a visiting music teacher come and join us in KS1 today. We were learning how to use our voices to make different noises, sorting instruments according to what they are made of and playing instruments as animal noises to accompany a story.

Today we undertook 5 experiments which helped us to understand our senses. We tried to identify different things by isolating our senses. We learnt about the different parts of the body we need to hear, touch, taste, smell and see.

In R.E we are looking at Christianity. Today we discussed the Bible and why it is so important to Christians. We looked through the Bible and identified the two parts of the Old Testament and the New Testament. We had to complete a treasure hunt through the Bible and find different things such as the story of Noah and a story about Jesus. We had to identify whether these were in the Old or New Testament.

We have been investigating 3D shapes this week. We have been looking at the properties of common 3D shapes and counting faces, edges and vertices. We played a matching game in which we had to match the shape to the number of edges they have.

We are learning the skills involved with the game of Benchball. We ended our PE lesson with a little game to use the skills we have been learning.

We have been learning about symmetry in Maths. The Year 1 children had to find some 2D shapes with a vertical line of symmetry in using a mirror.

We have enjoyed learning about our new book 'We're Going To Find the Monster' by Malorie Blackman. We have come up with actions for key phrases in the story and sequenced the events of the story with a partner.
