Photographs of our learning.
For our final Wellbeing Week activity Heidi came to teach us about copperplate calligraphy. We had to concentrate and listen carefully!
Sam came to teach a music lesson about "Body Percussion". We loved the different sounds we made and really enjoyed the composition game!
Allan from Pitcombe Rock Falconry came to visit us with his wls. We loved learning about the different breeds of owls and even got to stroke 1!
Jay, who is a personal trainer, came to do a fitness session with us! We had brilliant time! Even the teachers joined in with the dance moves!
We shared our fantastic homework creations! We held an exhibition or our work and went to Cuckoo and Eagle Classes to see what they had created!
We went on a fantastic visit to "We the Curious" in Bristol. We took part in a workshop where we found out about how rockets fly, how things float in space and about the different uses of materials in spacesuits. Next we had a brilliant time in the Planetarium. We went on a space mission with Hazel to collect samples from different kinds of planets in our Solar System. Finally we had some time to explore the lovely exhibits and played in the construction area before the long coach journey back to Bruton.
Mrs Price came to share the story Ruby's Worry with us. She talked to us about how worries grow if we don't share them. Finally she gave us some breathing exercises we can use if we are feeling worried.
Our next wellbeing week activity was a Yoga Exploration with Sorrel! We had a brilliant time journeying through the jungles of India to the African plains!
We started Wellbeing week with a lovely session from Kitty. Kitty talked to us about using music to help us with our feelings. She played us lots of different music on the piano and we thought about how the music made us feel and why.
We used the glockenspiel's to learn about keeping a steady beat and played along to the pulse of the music.
In Forest School we investigated water filters. We poured dirty water into the bottles. 1 bottle had filter paper, 1 bottle had paper and sand and the final bottle had paper and charcoal. We made predictions about we thought would happen to the water in each bottle. By the end of the afternoon the water in the 3 bottles were all different colours! The water in the bottle which just had filter paper in it was the darkest and dirtiest. The water the bottle that had been filtered through charcoal was the cleanest!
We continued our learning about "Animals including Humans" by finding out about animal diets. Some animals are Carnivores, some are Herbivores and Omnivores.
In Maths we have been adding 2 digit numbers.
In Science we were finding out about exercise. We discussed different activities that we thought would make our heartbeat faster and activities which we thought would not make our heartbeat faster. We tested our ideas in the Hall. We made sure to time each activity to ensure a fair test.
Today's poem is Snowball by Shel Silverstein.

We have continued to learn about the Navajo artist DY Begay. This week we created sun weavings. First we wove with wool then added fabric strips in the colours that remind us of the sun.
In Science we carried out some senses experiments. We had lots of fun listening, touching, looking, tasting and smelling!
We were very lucky to be joined by Rose who came to teach us about composing music! We all took part in a special story lesson where we thought about different sounds animals would make and how we could represent these using instruments.
We have been doing some unplugged computing this term. We have been finding out about grouping and classifying data. We went outside and thought about how we could group the children using different criteria.
As we are learning about Explorers we found out about how they navigate on their journeys. We experimented with compasses in class. We discovered the names of the compass points and tried to find North.

In P.E this week we started working on the skills of rolling and stopping a ball. By the end of the lesson we were beginning to aim!
This week's poem of the week was "Snowman" by Nicolette Lennert. The children amazed me by reciting the first poem we performed back in September today. They all remember Rain by Robert Louis Stevenson!

We started looking at our new Quest "Explorers". We thought about what we already know about Explorers and wrote questions about what we would like to find out. Finally we discovered new vocabulary and played a matching game to join the words with their meanings.
We found out about the Navajo weaver D.Y Begay. We created a background wash in our books using the colours that she uses in her work then we wrote information we had discovered about her and her work.
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes this week. We went on a shape hunt in the classroom and found lots of rectangles! We found out about vertices and used lolly sticks, geo boards and dotty paper to create 2D shapes. Finally we investigated vertical lines of symmetry.
