Photographs of our Learning

Today we had a VERY important visitor! Father Christmas took time out of his very busy schedule to come and see us in Bruton Primary School! He brought us some early Christmas gifts!

We all showed our fantastic Quest homework. We had all sorts of great work from posters to cakes and bread!

We had a brilliant time at our Christmas party! We played pass the parcel and musical statues before having a yummy feast in the Hall.

The children were fabulous in our Nativity play "The Big Little Nativity"

We have been working hard on our fine motor skills by sewing beautiful trees for our Christmas cards!

In Forest School this week we collected twigs to create  Christmas Tree decorations. First we had to find 3 twigs which were a similar size to each other. Next we brought them inside and dried them off before wrapping different wool around them. The children all concentrated very well on the task and got better and better at wrapping the wool!

Our poem this week was "I'll wear a smile" By Lenore Hetrick.

In computing we have been learning about digital photography. First we found out about how to take a photograph before moving on to learn about when to use portrait and landscape. Finally we found out about framing our pictures. We had a gallery and voted for our favourite photographs!

This week we found out about flexible partitioning. We stared by partitioning numbers into tens and ones then moved on to partitioning numbers in lots of different ways. We used dienes to help us.

We recreated the Great Fire of London this week. We used the houses that we had made last week to learn about how the fire spread easily as the houses were so close together. We also found out how a fire break stopped some houses from falling victim to the flames.

This week our poem is "My Missing Shoe" By Kate Miller-Wilson. I wonder if you have any missing shoes at your houses!

In Forest School this week we collected Autumn leaves and made wreaths. We worked hard on our cutting skills and arranged out leaves before sticking them to create our wreath.

We played Bingo! This helped us with our recognition of numbers greater than 20.

The children worked together to think of adjectives to describe Boxton the rat from "Vlad and the Great Fire of London"

We had great fun during our Family Learning Afternoon! The children and grown ups worked together to create some fantastic fabulous Tudor houses like those that would have stood during the Great Fire of London.

This week we tackled "Hummingbird" by Betty Sage. The children are doing a fabulous job remembering all our poems!

We worked in pairs to create pictures in the style of Kandinsky. We used lots of different tools to create our shapes and thought about different colours and thicknesses of lines.

We were History Detectives! We looked at different clues around the Classroom to see what we could learn about Why? Where? And When? the Great Fire of London happened.

The Year 2's visited Hauser and Wirth Somerset. We found out about the work of Nikki De Sant Phalle and Jean Tinguely.

Our first poem of the week is "Fireworks go". Some of the children are missing as they had vision screening.

We thought about questions we would like to know the answers to about The Great Fire of London.

We had lots of fun in Forest School this week! We chose a tree to be our class tree. We will be observing the tree throughout the seasons to see how it changes during the year. After we looked for signs of Autumn we had a brilliant time playing in the leaves!

We took part in a whole school "Being Creative" afternoon. We found out about Vincent Van Gough's painting "Starry Night". We used different techniques to draw lines and make imprints in the paint.
