Autumn One
Superheroes
This term our topic is 'Superheroes'. A fun and engaging topic for the children to begin their year with! This topic will focus on PSHE and Geography. The children will find out about aerial and 3D maps, use a key, create their own map, learn about points on a compass and what we use maps for. In PSHE we will be looking at everyday heroes and people who help us For more detailed information about what the children will be learning please look at the Parent Overview document (below). We send a paper copy of this at the beginning of the term.
Occasionally the plans will adapt and change as we follow the children's interests.
Reading - The expectation is that the children read, at home, three times a week. If the children are on the Accelerated Reader scheme, they can bring in their books as soon as they are finished and then complete a short comprehension quiz on the book. The children have to achieve 80% or above in three consecutive quizzes before they can move up a level. All the AR books are kept in the library and the children are responsible for choosing their own text. Please let us know if there is a problem with the book selected and they can easily change it.
The children on phonics books will have their reading book changed twice a week - this happens on Mondays and Thursdays. Books will only be changed when the children have read them 3 times and the staff are satisfied that they have developed a good understanding of what they have read and fluency.
Spelling - Year 2 children have spelling lists that it would be of benefit for them to learn each week. They could practise writing these out at home in a variety of ways and the Year 2 children will have a spelling test each Friday.
P.E. - . Please could the correct kit be worn and long hair needs to be tied up.
