Wellbeing Week

This week we are having an 'off timetable' week where we are having lots of visitors introduce us to and share with us different activities we might like to try to help our wellbeing.

Monday - today the children have participated in a fitness session with Jay West (Willow's Mum) where they got their heart rates up with some exercise followed by a guided meditation. In the afternoon the children met an Eagle from Pitcombe Falconry followed by a healthy cooking session where they made granola balls.

Tuesday - today we had another action packed day! We started the day off doing some mindfulness, lead by Rose from The Newt. She then took us into the forest school area to do a minibeast hunt and think about all the sounds we could hear. Next we made some delicious cupcakes - this session was lead by some ladies from The Chapel. The children worked amazingly well as a team to do their baking. In the afternoon we found out about bee keeping and all the children enjoyed tasting a spoonful of honey from Montacute. We finished the day by making stressballs from balloons and flour.

Wednesday - the children really needed to practise their fine motor skills when they made friendship bracelets in Auklet class. This was followed by learning about healthy and not so healthy foods. The children sorted pictures of foods into healthy and unhealthy and they talked about how it is ok to have a little bit of unhealthy food now and again but that healthy food affects our minds as well as our bodies. All of the children loved the nineties dancing in the hall and they came back into class buzzing with energy. The afternoon was calmer with a singing workshop lead by Tal's mum- Amy. Lucky children spending the afternoon singing under the shade of a tree! The day concluded with some Tae- Kwon- Do - amazing kicks and defence from all the children on such a hot day!

Thursday - Our final day to the well-being week began with a swim with Mrs Williams. The children had some coaching on their swimming strokes alongside playing some fun games. We then had an Encanto singing workshop with Miss Larcombe. The children could either choose to follow the lyrics on the board, or find a mindfulness colouring sheet that they could do alongside singing - whichever they found the most relaxing. I was impressed at how well everyone sang, we even had some impromptu dancing! After we had sang all the songs from Encanto (some more than once!) we then tried our hand at some Karaoke, where we heard fantastic renditions of Three Little Birds by Bob Marley, The Wellerman and Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi!
