In art we are learning about the printmaker Angie Lewin. She is inspired by plants and is a contrasting artist to John Nieto - in terms of colour and subject matter. The children responded to her work in their sketch books and made copies of their favourite images. They worked hard to include the detail and looked out how Lewin created the backgrounds. Some very impressive ideas and work today from all of the children.
This week in Quest we have been naming the parts of a plant. The children looked at primulas and made labels to show which were the roots, flowers, stem and the leaves. We have planted them in pots to make our classroom look bright and beautiful for the spring!
We had a wonderful trip to The Newt today. We were their first school visit so we were given the royal treatment! The children all did us proud with fantastic behaviour as they learned all about the life cycle of an oak tree and a frog. Next the children had their snack in the Orangery. After that the children participated in a scavenger hunt and spotted many unusual flowers and plants. To end the trip the children were all treated to a delicious gelato. I look forward to seeing some great writing inspired by our trip. Here are some photos of the class having fun on their visit.
In maths we are going to be looking at 2D and 3D shapes. Today we went on a shape hunt around the school to refresh our knowledge on shapes and to see which ones we could identify in everyday objects.
